THE FRANKLIN MINING DISTRICT
The hypothesis of the development of the ores through contact metamorphism due to the intrusion of the pegmatites was first proposed by Nason (143) in 1890 and was advocated in 1893 by Kemp (152), who misinterpreted the relations of the pegmatite dikes, then poorly exposed, to the ore bodies. It was rejected by Ries and Bowen (223) on evidence similar to that given above, proving that the pegmatites that are in contact with the zinc ore bodies are intrusive into them.
