FOMS Spring and Summer Schedule for 2007

Meetings of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS) are open to the public. Dues (which includes subscription to the society's journal, The Picking Table) are $20 per year for individuals, and $25 for families.

9:00 - Noon --- F.O.M.S. Field Trip --- Sterling Hill Mining Museum.

Fresh material has been set aside for collectors!  $1.50 per pound.

9:00 A.M. - Noon --- F.O.M.S. Micro Group, Franklin Mineral Museum.

Anyone who finds interesting micro mineral material at Sterling Hill, please bring it to the Franklin Mineral Museum where microscopes will be set up for your pleasure!

1:30 - 3:30 P.M. --- F.O.M.S. Meeting and Lecture, Franklin Mineral Museum.

Topic to be announced, by Alfredo Petrov, exploration geologist, Petrov Rare Minerals.

35th Annual N.J.E.S.A. Gem & Mineral Show

held in conjunction with the the 12th Annual F.O.M.S. Spring  Swap-and-Sell.

Sponsored by the New Jersey Earth Science Association, The Sterling Hill Mining Museum, and the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society, Inc.

N.J.E.S.A Show hours: Saturday, 9:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M.; Sunday, 10 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Swap-and-Sell hours: Saturday, 8:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M.; Sunday, 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Admission $5.00 per person, children under 14 free with paying adult.

Banquet and Auction Saturday evening at the GeoTech Center, Sterling Hill Mining Museum.

followed by an all-you-can-eat buffet from 6:30 to 7:30 P.M.

What we know about the age, origin, timing of the zinc mineralization and metamorphic conditions of the Franklin Marble,

by Rich Volkert, geologist, New Jersey Geological Survey.

 

Scheduled activities of the F.O.M.S. include meetings, field trips, and other events.

Regular meetings are held on the third Saturdays of March, April, May, June, September,

October, and November, and generally comprise a business session followed by a lecture.

F.O.M.S. meetings are open to the public, and are held at 1:30 P.M., usually in Kraissl Hall at the Franklin Mineral Museum, Evans St., Franklin NJ (check listings for exceptions).

 

 

Most F.O.M.S. field trips are open only to F.O.M.S. members aged 13 or older.

Proper field trip gear required:  hard hat, protective eyewear, gloves, sturdy shoes.

 

**Activities so marked are not F.O.M.S. functions but may be of interest to its members.  Fees, and membership in other organizations, may be required.

FOMS field trips are generally held on the mornings before regular FOMS meetings.

These field trips are open only to FOMS members aged 13 or older. An exception to the membership requirement is the Lime Crest Quarry field trip, sponsored twice a year by the FOMS; this is open to members of clubs which have E.F.M.L.S. liability insurance or equivalent coverage. Proof of membership is required for all field trips, as well as proper field trip gear: hard hat, protective goggles or glasses, gloves, and sturdy footwear.
