FOMS Fall schedule for 2007

Meetings of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS) are open to the public. Dues (which includes subscription to the society's journal, The Picking Table) are $20 per year for individuals, and $25 for families.

FALL – WINTER 2007 ACTIVITY SCHEDULE

Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007

9:00 A.M. - Noon -- Collecting at Sterling Hill.  Fresh material will be exposed for this field trip. 

$1.50 for each pound of material taken will be the only cost.

1:30 P.M. – 3:30 P.M. – F.O.M.S. Meeting and Lecture, Franklin Mineral Museum:

Mining Experiences in Zinc, Iron, and Copper Mines by Ronald H. Mishkin, miner-geologist-historian.


Saturday, and Sunday, September 29-30, 2007

**51ST ANNUAL FRANKLIN-STERLING GEM & MINERAL SHOW

Sponsored by the Franklin Mineral Museum.

Franklin Middle School, Washington St., Franklin, N.J.

9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Saturday (indoors), 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Sunday (indoors).

The ticket price covers the show, The Pond outdoor swap, and admission to the

Franklin Mineral Museum:  $6.00 per day for adults, $3.00 per day for children (6-16).

The Pond Swap-and-Sell, sponsored by the F.O.M.S., takes place outdoors on the school grounds from 7:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Saturday, and from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday.  Show admission required.
 

The F.O.M.S. Annual Banquet starts at 6:30 P.M. Saturday at the Franklin Fire House, Franklin, New Jersey.

Tickets may be obtained at the F.O.M.S. show table.  The meal is an all-you-can-eat buffet; soda, tea, and coffee are included.  B.Y.O.B.  After the banquet there will be an auction for the benefit of the F.O.M.S.  Please plan on donating a good specimen, artifact, book, etc.!

Sterling Hill Mining Museum Night Dig on the Mine Run Dump and Passaic and Noble Pits.

Admission fee is $5.00 for museum members and $20.00 for nonmembers. Poundage fee is $1.50 for each pound of material taken. 

**“Garage Sale” of minerals, etc., at the Sterling Hill Mining Museum on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. 

The Mine Run Dump and Passaic and Noble Pits will also
be open to the public for collecting from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M., Sunday only.

Admission fee is $5.00 (members and nonmembers) plus $1.50 for each pound of material taken.

9:00 A.M. – Noon — Collecting at the Taylor Road site.  Meet at the Franklin Mineral Museum.   Park, and walk from there.  (Note:  a lunar mineral, pyroxferroite, has been found at this site.  An article about this mineral, written by Tony Nikischer and Joe Orosz, was published in the August 2007 Mineral News.)

the Franklin Mineral Museum.  Doors open at 6:00 P.M. for check-in and mineral sales. 

Admission $10.00 adult, $8.00 children 3-12 years of age.

Night collecting for FMS members at the SHMM Mine Run Dump, 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M.

Most F.O.M.S. field trips are open only to F.O.M.S. members aged 13 or older.

Proper field trip gear required: hard hat, protective eyewear, gloves, sturdy shoes.

 

**Activities so marked are not F.O.M.S. functions but may be of interest to its members.

Fees, and memberships in other organizations, may be required.
