A Ca-Fe3+-(AsO4)-H2O
compound of varying composition.
Symmetry unknown
Yukonite, a calcium ferric-iron arsenate hydrate mineral, was identified from Sterling Hill during an investigation of some substances locally referred to as pitticite (Dunn, 1982). It occurred near the 340 level in two habits: as reddish-brown, waxy, gel-like material very similar to pitticite; and as dark brown lath-like aggregates, which have replaced koettigite and/or parasymplesite and which are associated with ogdensburgite and other arsenates.
Microprobe analysis yielded SiO2 0.6, Al2O3 1.0, Fe2O3 28.8, MgO 0.6, CaO 10.4, MnO 2.2, ZnO 3.8, As2O5 39.9, SO3 0.2, H2O (by difference) 12.5, total = 100.0 wt. %. X-ray methods are suggested for verification. Yukonite has not been reported from Franklin.
