Mn5(AsO3OH)2(AsO4)2.4H2O Monoclinic
Villyaellenite, a manganese arsenate hydrate mineral, was verified by the writer from Sterling Hill and published by Kampf and Ross (1988). Villyaellenite occurs as flattened, 7 mm wide, radial sprays of light pink crystals with vitreous luster. There is no response to ultraviolet. No other physical or optical data exist. A microprobe analysis is given in Table 25, showing minimal Mn/Ca solid solution. X-ray methods are suggested for verification.
Villyaellenite is known on but one specimen from the 340 level. It occurs with manganoan calcite in a vein in willemite/franklinite ore. The 340 level is one which contributed mostly Fe and Zn arsenates, so this occurrence is anomalous.
