Guerinite, a calcium arsenate hydrate mineral, was described by the writer (The Picking Table, 22, #1, p.2) from Sterling Hill, where it occurs as a post-mining mineral in shafts over 30 years old. Guerinite occurs as opaque, white, pearly-lustered aggregates of 1-3 mm prismatic crystals (Figure 25-27). It was identified using X-ray methods, which are suggested for verification. Guerinite fluoresces with a weak white color in shortwave and longwave ultraviolet (Bostwick, 1982). It formed on white calcite which contained small amounts of arsenopyrite, realgar, and graphite. It is not known from Franklin.
