Halotrichite, an iron aluminum sulfate hydrate mineral, was first noted from Sterling Hill by Ewald Gerstmann and was identified using X-ray methods; no chemical or physical data exist. It occurs as small, 1 mm, white, fibrous crystals on pyrite, calcite, and goethite. It is not known from Franklin.
