The carbonates

The carbonate minerals are very important at both Franklin and Sterling Hill; both deposits are wholly enclosed in calcite. Within the orebodies, calcite is pervasive, is one of the four most abundant minerals in the primary ores, and is widely distributed throughout the calcium silicate units as well. Rhodochrosite and kutnahorite are moderately common, but detailed studies of assemblages have not been made. The locally occurring carbonate minerals are listed below.
