Heulandite, a sodium calcium aluminum silicate hydrate mineral of the zeolite group, was first reported and illustrated from Sterling Hill by Palache (1928a, 1935)(Figure 19-6). Here it is associated with hematite on the 1000 level. Casperson (1956) reported it in colorless crystal groupings with stilbite in vugs in the Buckwheat Dolomite, and Cook (1973) reported it on a fracture surface in gneiss from Franklin. More recently, fine crystals have been found on the 1200 and 1300 levels at Sterling Hill, some associated with the gneisses in the central core.
