BaAl2Si2O8
Monoclinic
Celsian, a barium aluminum silicate mineral of the feldspar group, was first reported by Frondel et al. (1966) as a rare mineral from the Franklin orebody associated with andradite and mica; it has not been reported from Sterling Hill. Frondel (1972) reported it as bluish white, altering and becoming almost chalky. The one known analysis, of material with Cn52, is given in Table 17. One specimen, verified by the writer on the basis of XRD data, consists of white, opaque, anhedral, 1 cm crystals, associated with andradite, grossular, and unanalyzed mica.
