Monoclinic
Illite, a potassium aluminum silicate hydroxide hydrate mineral of the clay group, occurs at Sterling Hill as 1-2 mm aggregates on weathered ore (J. L. Baum, personal communication). It has not been studied in detail and has not been reported from Franklin.
