The tourmaline group plays no major role in the ore deposits; occurrences are sparse and trivial. However, uvite is an important mineral in the Franklin Marble where it occurs in superb euhedral crystals of fine color and morphological variety. The locally occurring members of the tourmaline group are listed below.
