Almandine, an iron aluminum silicate mineral of the garnet group, is one of the rarer garnets locally. Unanalyzed material in the almandine-pyrope series has been found associated with sillimanite in the central gneiss zone at Sterling Hill. Almandine was also found in one specimen from Franklin (#118065), associated with loellingite, magnetite, and fayalite; an analysis of this material is given in Table 2.
